Description: The Personnel Halting and Stimulation Response (PHaSR) is a man-portable, hand-held, non-lethal deterrent weapon developed by the US Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Kirkland Air Force Base, New Mexico. This weapon is based on laser technology and is intended for protecting troops and controlling hostile crowds. It can be used on both cases personal and perimeter defense.
The PHaSR employs a two-wavelength laser system to temporarily disable potential aggressors from the ability to see the laser source. This laser system is usable at short ranges. AFRL has been funded for adding an eye-safe laser range finder into PHaSR which would make the system effective at longer ranges. PHaSR program is expected to be complete by March 2006.
