Description: The AeroVironment RQ-11 Raven is a Small Unmanned Aircraft System (SUAS) designed to provide low-altitude intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities. This lightweight, hand-launched system features rapid deployment and high mobility and is intended for both military and commercial customers. The Raven's flight course can rely on the commands coming from a ground control station or a pre-programmed flight path. The system operates at ranges of up to 10 km using a line-of-sight data-link to deliver real-time color or infrared imagery.
When the RQ-11 Raven flies in autonomous mode following a pre-programmed flight path relies on its advanced avionics and precise GPS navigation. Its recovery is carried out in autoland mode using deep-stall vertical landing. Equipped with dual forward and side-looking IR (Infrared) or EO (Electro-Optical) cameras the Raven provides day/night imagery. Overall, the Raven is an aerial observation system suitable for remote ISR, target acquisition, force protection and convoy security, battle damage assessment, and military operations in urban terrain (MOUT).
Currently, Raven B is the production standard for the RQ-11 aerial vehicle. Raven B is an enhanced version of the battle proven Raven A which has been deployed in Iraq. The RQ-11 is in operation with the Armed Forces of the United States of America and the United Kingdom and has been deployed to Iraq. Each RQ-11 system, valued at $240,000, includes three Raven mini UAVs and the equipment necessary for operations.
