Description: The Remote Guardian System (RGS) is a modular remotely operated weapon station developed by BAE Systems for the US Marine Corps MV-22 tilt-rotor aircraft. Equipped with a GAU-17 7.62mm mini-gun provides 360 degree of suppressive fire. In addition, its modular design allows for integration of a variety of sensors and guns as well as for integration of the RGS on non-airborne platforms such as ground vehicles. The belly-mounted weapon system is based on a retractable and compact design that saves space cabin and is fully compatible with the V-22's avionics suite. BAE Systems has been developing the RGS since mid-2005 and expects to clear the system for installation on the MV-22 aircraft beginning in the third quarter of 2008. BAE Systems received the first production order from NAVAIR in March 2011 with deliveries due in 2012.
