Description: Kitty Hawk are a class of conventionally powered aircraft carriers built for the US Navy between the late 1950s and the early 1960s. The class comprises three aircraft carriers designed to conduct inland attack missions through its embarked aircraft wing, to support US military forces deployments around the globe and amphibious landings. Currently, USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) is the only surviving ship of this class being homeported at Yokosuka, Japan. In late October 2005, the US Navy announced that the USS Kitty Hawk was going to be decommissioned and replaced by a Nimitz-class ship as the forward-deployed carrier in 2008.
