Description: The Akinci is a multi-purpose unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Baykar to serve as a reconnaissance and strike asset for the Turkish Armed Forces. The Akinci features two propellers each powered by a 550-hp engine and can be armed with a wide array of bombs and missiles. Besides, the unmanned aircraft can perform electronic intelligence (ELINT) and communications intelligence (COMINT) missions. The sensor package includes a nose-mounted multi-mode AESA radar and an electro-optical payload mounted under the belly as well as beyond-the-line-of-sight satellite communications (SATCOM). The 4.5-ton airplane can stay airborne for up to 24 hours and has six external hard points to carry bombs and missiles such as SOM-J also developed for the Turkish Armed Forces. The Akinci UAV is expected to achieve initial operational capability with the Turkish Air Forces in the early 2020s.
