Description: The People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy (PLAN) anti-ship, turbofan-powered drone CH-TI has been designed to fly at very low altitudes above water utilizing the ground effect. The CH-TI drone is able to fly at a maximum speed of 600 kilometers per hour. The airframe features canard fore-planes and upward swept wings with the ability to fly at altitudes between 50 centimeters and 3,000 meters with a maximum takeoff weight of 3,000 kilograms and a payload of 1,000 kilograms. The CH-X drone can stay airborne for 1 and a half hours and can takeoff from water with an operational altitude of 1 to 6 meters. The drone can be used for release of a variety of torpedoes to engage surface ships and submarines, other weapons or carrying a 1,000 kilograms warhead in suicide missions. Operation of swarm of such drones communicating and assuming roles among them is also envisaged. Besides, the aircraft may be equipped with electronic warfare (EW) systems. The new drone existence was leaked in May 2017 and might be used to conduct military missions in the South China Sea area providing support for the Chinese artificial islands.
