Description: The J-20, also referred to as J-14 or J-XX, is a heavyweight fifth generation fighter aircraft designed to counter the United States Air Force's F-22 Raptor. The People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) may deploy the new fighter aircraft in the 2018-2020 timeframe along with the single engine J-12 stealth aircraft. The twin-engine J-20 may be powered by two WS-15 engines or by Russian engines such as AL-31F or 117S as an interim solution pending on the WS-15 engine development. The first pictures of the J-20 on the ground emerged from the Chinese Internet in late December 2010. Its maiden flight was conducted successfully on January 11, 2011. The aircraft seems to be far from production series with its development expected to last for one decade or two. Anyways, the existence of the J-20 stealth fighter proves China's commitment to become the next superpower challenging or replacing the United States of America.
