Description: The Guizhou Aviation Industry Company JL-9, also referred to as JJ-7B and the FTC-2000 Mountain Eagle (Shanying) for the export market, is a tandem twin-seat fighter trainer intended to support the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) Su-27, Su-30MKK and J-11A/B fighter jets. The JL-9G is a version designed to provide training for the People's Liberation Army Naval Air Force (PLANAF). The JL-9 is based and is the replacement for the JJ-7 trainer which also derives from the Mig-21U Mongol training jet. The aircraft features two lateral jet intakes, a conventional nose radome homing a radar, a 23mm cannon and is powered by a single WP-13F(C) turbojet engine rated at 14,650-lb of thrust with afterburner. The export version called FTC-2000 is offered with the Italian FIAR Grifo S7 pulse-Doppler radar. The JL-9 fighter trainer first flight was carried out in December 2003 and entered service with the PLAAF and PLANAF in 2011 with a limited number of aircraft produced so far.
