Description: The Tempest is a sixth generation (6G) combat aircraft being developed by the United Kingdom (UK) Ministry of Defense (MoD) along with an industry team led by BAE Systems. The industry team also includes Rolls-Royce (propulsion system), Leonardo (sensors) and MBDA (weapon systems). Nevertheless the UK is searching for international partners for the Tempest project including both countries and contractors. Saab and Asian companies are being inquired on this issue. The new stealth combat aircraft will be able to operate both manned and unmanned. It is the direct result of the UK being excluded from the Franco-German JCAS 6G aircraft and the British pretense to remain a first class military power in the 21st century. The UK MoD unveiled the Tempest project at the Farnborough airshow on July 16, 2018. The development through 2025 will require funding of up to £2 billion. The Tempest 6G aircraft is expected to achieve initial operation capability (IOC) within the Royal Air Force (RAF) by 2035 replacing progressively the Typhoon fleet.
