Description: The Bell V-247 Vigilant is an unmanned tilt-rotor aircraft combining the flexibility of a rotary-wing aircraft and the speed and range of a fixed-wing airplane. The V-247 has been designed to meet the requirements of the US Marine Corps for Group 5 UAS long-endurance persistent expeditionary and surveillance capability with the option to employ lethal weapons. Besides, mission packages will allow to perform electronic warfare (EW); intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR); escort; C4 (Command, Control, Communications and Computer); fire support and tactical distribution missions. This unmanned aerial system (UAS) can operate from both a wide range of maritime platforms and unprepared ground runways. Bell unveiled the new aircraft in September 2016 and expects to start serial production of the V-247 as soon as 2023.
The V-247 Vigilant is powered by a single engine achieving a top speed of 300 knots (+500 kilometers per hour) while staying airborne for 11 hours. The two rotors are mounted on folded wings to fit into hangar of destroyer-sized ships.
