Description: The RAH-66 Comanche is a lightweight, highly maneuverable, stealth, scout and light attack helicopter designed for the replacement of AH-1 and OH-58 helicopters. The Comanche helicopter will be one of the key transition elements that will enable the US Army to achieve the Objective Force. The new helicopter will be agile, deployable, versatile, lethal, survivable and sustainable according to US Army 21st requirements.

The Comanche helicopter will evade detection by radar, acoustic and infrared sensors. It will be able to fire Stinger and Hellfire missiles, as well as future missiles under development. Missiles will be carried in two internal retractable side bays due to stealth features, with external weaponry eventually. A nose-mounted 20mm cannon and rockets will complete the weapons options. An advanced electro-optical sensor and a radar will be provided for targeting and navigation in rough environments, as well as integrated countermeasures.

The US Army initial procurement is for 1,213 RAH-66 helicopters but funds availability, final helicopter configuration and program modifications could change that figure or cancel the entire program.

Following US Army's Aviation Review the RAH-66 Comanche attack helicopter was cancelled in February 2004.
