Description: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) helicopter division's Dhruv 'polestar' medium-size, multi-role, multi-mission aircraft is the result of the Indian Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) program. Series production started in 2000 achieving initial operational capability (IOC) with the Indian Navy in 2002. It was designed to meet the requirements of both civil and military operators.

The Dhruv twin-engine helicopter can perform utility and attack missions using a day/night, all-weather navigation and targeting systems. The avionics and glass cockpit are provided by Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) and the two TM333 turbo shafts by Turbomeca (Snecma Group) of France. The passenger/troop capacity is 12-14 depending on the aircraft configuration.

HAL in partnership with IAI are actively marketing the Dhruv/ALH helicopter in the international market. It is suitable for airlift, VIP transport, search and rescue, medical evacuation, law enforcement, off-shore operations, disaster relief, etc. The Indian Defense Ministry has an option for the purchase of 200+ helicopters.

As of June 2005, in addition to India the Dhruv/ALH multi-purpose helicopter has been ordered from Israel and Nepal.
