Eurocopter AS 365/SA 365 Dauphin, Dolphin in English, is a medium-weight twin-engine helicopter available for both commercial and military customers. It was developed by Aerospatiale of France in the 1970s as the Dauphin 2 as a follow-on to SA 360/SA 361 Dauphin helicopter. It is equipped with a four bladed main rotor and a Fenestron shrouded tail rotor. AS 565 Panther designation refers to militarized Dauphin helicopters. It is powered by either two Turbomeca Arriel 1C or Arriel 2C turboshaft engines each rated at 749-shp.
The AS 565 Panther military version of Dauphin is suitable for fire support, Anti-Submarine (ASW) and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) missions. It can be outfitted with AS15TT anti-ship missiles, searchlight, Magnetic Anomaly Detector (MAD), sonar, search radar, anti-tank missiles, gun pods, rockets, torpedoes etc. Panther was sold to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) as the HH-65 Dolphin.
EC155 is a five-blade main rotor variant of Dauphin multi-mission helicopter aimed at the VIP, corporate, offshore, police, public service and emergency medical service markets. It offers a larger and quieter cabin delivering outstanding comfort. It can transport up to 12 passengers and a two-man crew. Speed and range capabilities have been increased on the EC155 aircraft. It retains the wheeled retractable undercarriage from AS 365.
Eurocopter introduced the EC155 in 2002 powered by two Turbomeca Arriel 2C2 turboshaft engines each rated at 911-shp and equipped with glass cockpit. Currently EC155B1 is the only version available of this aircraft.
On 22 February 2006, India-based Global VECTRA Helicop placed an order for three Eurocopter EC155 helicopters to be added to two EC155s ordered in 2005. Global VECTRA provides offshore and VIP transport services throughout India.
