Description:
The Global Hawk Ground Segment consist of a mission control element/trailer (MCE), launch and recovery element/trailer (LRE), a Ku-band SATCOM terminal, common line-of-sight data link MIST and 2 tactical generators.
The launch and recovery element with a crew of 2 men is responsible for preparing, launching and recovering the Global Hawk air vehicle. During Global Hawk's flight the mission control element takes full control. MCE process and relays all the imagery and information collected by the air vehicle's sensors (SAR, EO and IR). Command, Control and Communications (C3) between the AN/MSQ-131 station and the Global Hawk air vehicle depends on a line-of-sight data link and a Ku-band SATCOM terminal when the air vehicle is beyond the line-of-sight.
One AN/MSQ-131 system plus 30-day operation associated equipment can be transported in three C-141 Starlifter aircraft.
