Ula

IOC: 1989
Total Production: 6

Origin:Norway

Contractor/s: ThyssenKrupp AG

Description: Diesel-powered Ula-class submarines were conceived to operate in the coastal environment surrounding Norway. These submarines benefited from a cooperative Norway-Germany approach with the submarine hull sections built in Norway and assembled each other in Germany. Eight 533mm torpedo tubes were provided to fire 14 torpedoes that typically carries this submarine.

The Norwegian Navy procured six boat delivered between 1989 and 1992. These ships are planned to be replaced by four subs of the joint North-European Viking submarine program beginning in the second half of this decade (2005-2010).
