Description: The 65-76 is a 650mm heavyweight anti-ship torpedo developed by the former Soviet Union in the 1970s and intended to equip third generation nuclear attack submarines. The 65-76 torpedoes feature an outstanding range to engage large surface ships such as aircraft carriers from safe ranges. The propulsion system of this torpedo family allows a top speed of 50 knots (+90 kilometers per hour).

The 65-76 torpedo entered service with the Soviet Navy in 1976. Its design is based upon the 65-73 torpedoes which were fitted with a 20Kt nuclear warhead to engage aircraft carrier battle groups. The 65-76 torpedoes are fitted with a 450 kg High Explosive (HE) warhead and the homing system combines both active and passive sonar with wire guidance.
