Description: The Hongjian-12 (HJ-12) or Red Arrow 12 is a third generation, man portable, anti-tank missile system intended to defeat armored vehicles, bunkers and field fortifications at ranges of up to 4,000 meters. This fire and forget missile system utilizes an imaging infrared (IIR) seeker with the target being locked up before the launch. It can be fired from inside buildings thus proving to be an awesome option for urban warfare. The HJ-12 is equivalent to the United States Army Javelin missile system sharing the ability to hit a target from top where the armor is weaker. The tandem shaped charge warhead is able to penetrate up to 1,100 millimeters of armor. Alternatively the warhead can be replaced by a high explosive (HE) or thermobaric one intended to take out fortifications. The People's Liberation Army (PLA) introduced the new HJ-12 weapon system in 2014 or 2015. The state-of-the-art HJ-12 is expensive and only China has been reported as the sole operator so far.
