Description: The HQ-12, KS-1A export designation, is a medium range surface-to-air missile (SAM) developed in China for integration with its homonymous air defense system. It can shoot down rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft at altitudes between 500 to 25,000 meters at ranges between 5 to 50 kilometers flying at a maximum speed of Mach 4 powered by a solid rocket booster. It is said that this SAM has limited capability against cruise missiles and unmanned air vehicles (UAVs). The missile can maneuver at 20g load factor against targets maneuvering at 4 to 5 Gs and is equipped with a 100kg High Explosive (HE) fragmentation warhead with radiofrequency proximity fuze. The HQ-12 missile entered service with the People's Liberation Army in 2007.
