Description: The Hyper Velocity Projectile (HVP) is a next-generation guided projectile capable of completing multiple missions for the Electromagnetic Rail Gun. The new projectile features low drag, modularity and is also intended for existing 5-inch and 155mm conventional guns systems. Its modularity will make possible to adapt the new projectile to a variety of existing and future gun systems. The modularity will enable the engagement of different targets thus meeting the multiple mission requirement such as shore bombardment or anti-ship projectile. In November 2013, the Office of Naval Research (ONR) awarded BAE Systems a contract to develop and demonstrate the HVP along with teammates UTC Aerospace Systems and CAES.
