Description: The Russian Navy Predator is a new supercavitating torpedo being developed as the successor for the Shkval rocket-powered torpedo. The supercavitating weapon uses rocket fuel to vaporize the water around the torpedo as it moves underwater. The supercavitating effect creates a bubble around the torpedo minimizing drag and maximizing speed to the level of 360 kilometers per hour more than three times the speed reached by propelled powered torpedoes. The Predator may introduce outstanding improvements over the previous generation of rocket torpedoes such lower noise emissions and improved guidance system. The Russian Navy announced its intention to replace the Shkval torpedo with the Predator in 2016.
