Description: The QianWei-2 (QW-2) , also referred to as Vanguard 2 for the export market, is a third generation man-portable shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile (SAM) developed by CASIC for the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and export customers. Its design has some resemblance with the Russian 9K310/SA-16 Gimlet portable SAM system which was the basis for its predecessor the QW-1 SAM system. It was first showcased in 1998 at the Paris Air Show and entered service with the PLA by the end of the 1990s or early 2000s. The missile is produced under license in Pakistan under the Anza Mk-3 designation. This fire and forget missile features a cooled two color infrared seeker and a single-stage solid rocket and requires a crew of two-man to operate the weapon system effectively. In addition to Pakistan and China, the QW-2 SAM system was sold at least to Bangladesh in 2007.
The QW-2 missile can engage airborne threats at ranges between 500 meters to 6 kilometers flying at altitudes between 10 meters and 3,500 meters. The CQW-2 is a vehicle-mounted variant that includes a target acquisition radar and an electro-optical fire control system installed on the carrier vehicle.
