Description: The Qaem, 'Rising' in English, is a laser-guided surface-to-air missile (SAM) system developed by Iran under its weapons program started in 1992 as a response to the United States arms embargo. The Qaem missile is intended against low altitude, low-speed armored aircraft such as attack and transport helicopters. The Iranian press has reported that the Qaem could be used against the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter. It remains uncertain the performance of this SAM against faster low altitude, fixed-wing aircraft such as the A-10A/C. The Qaem missile system could be used against a potential invasion by the United States and its allies on the making since 2008. Its existence was revealed during the inauguration ceremony of its production line in February 2010.
