Description: The Spike-LR2 is a fifth generation long-range anti-tank missile suitable for use by infantry, armored vehicles, naval vessels and attack helicopters. The Spike-LR2 retains the main characteristics of the Spike missile family but enhanced weight reduction, lethality and range. The missile can be fitted with two different warheads: Tandem HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) with 30-percent more penetration than previous models and a new multipurpose blast warhead with controlled fuze. The multipurpose blast warhead can penetrate up to 200mm of reinforced concrete and detonate inside the target's structure causing immense damage. Detonated in the open field the warhead provides outstanding blast fragmentation effect. The Spike-LR2 has a maximum range of 5,500 meters launched from the ground compared with 4,000 meters on the Spike-LR or up to 10 kilometers launched from helicopter.
The Australian Army selected the Spike-LR2 anti-tank missile in August 2018 for use by infantry and potentially rotary-wing aircraft. The helicopter launched variant of the missile requires a wireless communication channel.
