Description: The W88 is a compact, thermonuclear warhead developed in the 1970s having a maximum yield of 475 kiloton and intended to fit into MIRVed intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) such as the US Navy's Trident II. The W88 is the most advanced nuclear warhead produced by the United States of America. The United States intends to upgrade the W88 warhead (W88 ALT 370) between 2019 and 2024. The new warhead may have a lower yield to be used as a tactical nuclear warhead deployed by the Trident II missile.
