Description: The WCMD-ER (Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser Extended Range) is a derivative of the combat-proven WCMD kit. The new kit features a GPS/INS based navigation system and aerodynamic changes through a wing kit for extended range such as Lockheed-Martin's LongShot range extension system. The new kit will enable dispenser weapons to be dropped 30-40 miles away form the target. An increased standoff range also means improved survivability for the launch aircraft.

The US Air Force plans to purchase up to 7,500 WCMD-ER kits, which will be applied to existing CBU-87, -89, and -97 dispenser weapons. CBU-105/ D-4 is the US Air Force designation for WCMD training rounds. CBU-97 refitted with the WCMD are designated the CBU-105.

In May 2005 (5-19-2005), Lockheed-Martin was awarded a $52.9 million contract to supply the US Air Force 1,655 WCMD tail kits and 100 WCMD-ER tail kits. This contract, that corresponds to WCMD production Lot 5, marked the production launch for the longer range WCMD-ER tail kit. WCMD and WCMD-ER dispensers were planned to be mated with Sensor Fuzed Weapons (SFWs) for reduced collateral damage. With Lot 5 production contract the US Air Force received or had on order around 28,000 WCMD tail kits along with 100 WCMD-ER kits.
