Description: The Type 051B class destroyer, NATO codename Luhai, is a multi-purpose ship based upon a stretched Type 051 ship hull with certain stealth features focusing on radar cross section. The only ship in this class, named Shenzhen, is larger than Type 051 destroyers but its weapon system is not a great achievement. Dalian Shipyard started the construction of Shenzhen in 1996 with the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy (PLAN) ship commissioning in late 1998.

The Type 051B ship weapon system includes one eight-cell HQ-7/Crotale or improved HQ-7A air defense missile system, 16 YJ-83/C-803 anti-ship missiles, one twin-barrel 100mm gun mounted on an stealth turret, 324mm torpedo tubes and four twin 37mm AA guns. A flight deck and hangar enables operation of two Ka-28 or Z-9C ASW helicopters. The ship features CODOG-based propulsion system.
