Description: The FAUST is a command and control system which provides a precise picture of the digitized battlefield to all levels of the command management from divisions to troop level. The system was developed in partnership between EADS and the Bundeswehr, the German Armed Forces. It provides near real time reports on soldier's position and situation which translates to enhanced survivability. All in all, FAUST accelerates command and control timing as well as decision making while providing network-centric operations capability. FAUST stands for tactical command and control equipment.

FAUST testing began in Afghanistan as early as 2003 on the hands of French, British and Canadian Forces. In October 2004, 150 FAUST systems were deployed with German Forces in the former Yugoslavia. Following these early deployments, the system has demonstrated its suitability for international peacekeeping operations used by coalition forces or by the forces of a single country. Moreover, the system is fully compliant with NATO standards.

The German Armed Forces foreseen FAUST as the foundation of their new command and control information system (F�InfoSys Heer). The system, comprising a comprehensive range of highly mobile battlefield and command-post facilities, will be implemented from 2007 onwards. Actually, the FAUST design takes into account the special needs of German individual units. EADS Defence and Communications Systems (DCS) acts as the Lead Integrator or Systems House for the FAUST project.

In April 2005, EADS was awarded a 23 million euros order by the German Army for supplying software for the new Bundeswehr's command and control system FAUST. The FAUST features a selectable user interface at start-up supporting German, English and Hungarian languages.

On 7 September 2005, EADS was awarded a contract for 150 FAUST sets to equip the German elements of the NATO Response Force 7 (NRF7). These sets were intended for installation onto DURO, WOLF and FUCHS armored vehicles which were expected to be assigned to the Franco-German Brigade by 2006.
