Description:
The SIC 21 is a battle management / command aides system developed to meet the requirements of the French Navy. This system will ensure secure liaison and communications between the French national authorities, French expeditionary forces deployed overseas, and allied forces.
The SIC 21 modular architecture will allow integration on the full spectrum of fighting and flag ships owned by the French Navy. Its primary functions comprise messages delivery, theater situational awareness, mission planning, operations course assessment, and logistics management.
The SIC 21 system will be fully compliant with French and NATO security standards allowing seamlessly integration of French forces within coalition forces.
In February 2004, the French armaments procurement agency (DGA) awarded Thales a $141 million (€113 million) contract for SIC 21 development and operational support for a ten years period. The SIC 21 systems will be integrated into surface ships, ground stations and aircraft ranging from notebook to the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier room-sized system.
The SIC 21 deployment would start in 2006 with 125 systems to be integrated on a wide range of platforms.
