Description: The Albion-class ships have been designed to perform landing platform dock missions. They will embark, transport, deploy and recover troops and their equipment, vehicles, and miscellaneous cargo forming part of an amphibious assault force. Typically Albion-class ships will carry four LCU, two Merlin helicopters, 305 troops (max 710), Challenger main battle tanks, and other vehicles and equipment. The Royal Navy has ordered two Albion-class landing platform dock ships and were commissioned in 2003 and 2004.
Two Goalkeeper close-in weapon systems and several small caliber guns will be responsible for ship self-defense against airborne threats.
