Description: The Rubis-class ships are considered as the world's most compact nuclear-powered submarines. They feature 6 533mm torpedo tubes for a combination of F17 torpedoes and Exocet anti-ship missiles. These ships are an evolution of proven Agosta-class submarines. They are intended against submarines and surface ships.

The French Navy ordered 6 Rubis class submarines with the lead ship, Rubis, commissioned in 1983. The first four Rubis-class ships have been upgraded to the Amethyste configuration introduced in 1992, these submarines are now called the Amethyste-class.
