Description: The Turkish Navy MILGEM project is a next generation, affordable class of corvettes/light frigates intended for patrol, anti-surface (ASuW) and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) missions. Designed in Turkey, Istanbul Naval Shipyard is the prime contractor with Aselsan, Havelsan and Yates integrating key electronic equipments and the ship's advanced command and control system. The ship features low life cycle costs, high survivability, shock resistance, excellent seakeeping characteristics, high reliability, and stealth hull design achieving low radar, magnetic, infrared and acoustic signatures. The MILGEM project includes construction of four corvettes and eight light frigates called TF100 and TF2000.

The Istanbul-class frigate, also referred to as TF100 and TF2000, has been designed to perform Anti-Air Warfare (AAW) missions carrying ESSM missiles as well as Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) missions carrying 16 anti-ship missiles. The Turkish Navy expects to commission the lead frigate in 2022 or 2023.
