Description: The Principe de Asturias is a lightweight V/STOL aircraft carrier which can carry AV-8 Harrier fixed wing aircraft and SH-3 Sea King and AB-212 helicopters. Four Meroka Close-In Weapons systems provide defense against airborne threats in addition to the AV-8B+ V/STOL aircraft.

The Principe de Asturias is the flagship of the Spanish Navy fleet and was commissioned in 1988. The ship is scheduled for decommissioning in June 2013 due to lack of funds for its upgrade and the deep crisis of the Spanish economy. The Principe de Asturias will be scrapped soon thereafter.
