Description: The 14,000-ton class Project 1174 or Ivan Rogov amphibious landing ships are designed to deliver troops and equipment on hostile shores. The Soviet Union's Navy commissioned three ships between 1978 and 1990 of which one is said to remain in service with the Russian Navy. Its 2,500-ton payload allows for transportation of 53 T-72 main battle tanks or 80 BTR-80 armored personnel carriers or alternatively 565 marines with 25 T-72s. The equipment and troops land through a bow ramp, airborne using Ka-27 helicopters and/or landing crafts from the stern docking bay.
The Ivan Rogov-class landing ships weapon system comprises two single-rail OSA-M and two four-cell Strela-3M surface-to-air missile systems, 122mm Grad-M multiple launch rocket system with 320 rockets for shore bombardment, one twin-barrel AK-760 76mm gun, four six-barrel AK-630 guns and up to four Ka-27 helicopters. The propulsion system consists of two-shaft, 2 gas turbines developing 2x18,000-hp of power which provide a top speed of 20 knots.
