Description: The Russian Navy Project 23560 Lider class, 'Leader' in English, are the next generation multi-purpose destroyers being developed by Krylov State Research Center in Saint Petersburg. The ship features an hybrid nuclear and gas turbine propulsion system allowing a top speed of 30 knots. Despite being called destroyers, these 17,500-ton classships are actually cruisers. The Lider class destroyers will be equipped with an improved Caliber missile system with 60 anti-ship cruise missies and16 anti-submarine missiles to engage surface ships, onshore targets and submarines. A navalized version of the S-500 will provide ballistic missile defense and air defense against airborne threats at ultra long ranges with 128 missiles. Besides, the Poliment-Redut air defense system will provide air defense at medium and long ranges. Shorter and Close-in air defense will be provided by the Pantsir-M and Palash weapon systems. A flight deck and hangar will allow operations of two helicopters. The ship will be able to operate autonomously for up to 90 days. As of December 2014, the Russian Ministry of Defense had already approved the Lider class technical specifications. The first Lider-class destroyer might be commissioned in the 2020-2025 timeframe with her construction starting in 2019.
