Suffren-class frigates are powered by two gas turbines developing 72,500-shp which gives an outstanding top speed of 34 knots. Its weapon system includes a Masurca system with 48 Tartar? missiles, four MM38 Exocet anti-ship missiles, two 100mm and four 20mm anti-aircraft guns, 10 torpedo tubes and four 12.7mm machine guns. Currently, Duquesne is the only surviving ship of this class in the French Navy. Deemed obsolete her decommissioning is expected before 2007 with an Horizon frigate taking its place.
