Description:
The ARJ21 is a twin-engine regional jet intended for the Chinese market. The aircraft is being developed by AVIC I Commercial Aircraft Co. Ltd. (ACAC) in China with the assistance of foreign companies that will supply components and major subsystems such as the aircraft's turbofan engines. The ARJ21 aim is to satisfy the growing demands of Chinese aviation market as well as the growing number of passengers. Despite ARJ21 has not been marketed as an aircraft family there will be two versions. The ARJ21 aircraft family seating capacity will range from 78 to 105 passengers.
Two variants with a seating capacity of 70 and 90 passengers are called to be developed under the ARJ21 project. The 90-passenger aircraft would a stretched version. The first prototype was planned to enter flight testing in 2006 with an entry into revenue service date slated for 2007 or 2008. The ARJ21 airplane has been designed to operate from small airports and replace larger passenger aircraft. In addition to the passenger transport role, ARJ21 might transport freight. The aerodynamic design features a T tail and blended winglets with the two engines located side-by-side at the rear fuselage.
In November 2002, ACAC signed a letter of intent (LOI) with General Electric Aircraft Engines (GEAE) selecting GEAE's CF34-10A engine to power the ARJ21 airplane. Both companies anticipated a market prospect for 500 airplanes over the next 20 years in China.
The ARJ21F is a 10-ton payload class freight aircraft derived from the AVIC1 Commercial Aircraft Co (ACAC) ARJ21 regional jet. It features a 19-meter long cargo compartment which can accommodate alternatively five LD7 containers or four to five PIP pallets. The ARJ21F freighter has a maximum payload of 10,150 kg. This twin-engine freighter has been designed to transport a 10-ton cargo over ranges of 1,800 nautical miles (3,000+ km) while cruising at 0.78 Mach.
