Description: The Airbus A300 is a twin-engine, wide-body, two-aisle, short- to medium-range airliner capable of carrying from 220 to 360 passengers. It can be powered by either General Electric CF6 or Pratt & Whitney PW4000 engines. The latest model, Airbus A300-600, has a 266-seat capacity in a two-class configuration and a range of 7,700 kilometers (4,000 nautical miles).

The Airbus A300F freighter is a derivative of successful A300-600 short- to medium-range airliner entering service in 1994. It can transport up to 51-ton of cargo (containers and/or pallets) over more than 4,800 kilometers (2,600 nautical miles).

On December 17, 2004, Air Hong Kong (AHK) ordered two further Airbus A300-600F freighters with options on two additional aircraft. This order was added to an early order placed in March 2003 for six A300Fs. The two new freighters will be delivered in May and June 2006.

Sagawa Express Co. Ltd, a cargo business company in Japan, placed an order for one Airbus A300-600F freighter plus another airplane as option on May 19, 2005. Galaxy Airlines Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Sagawa, was established to operate the A300-600F airplane for the first time in Japan.

On 12 September 2005, FedEx placed an order for six Airbus A300-600F freighters plus undisclosed options. The engine to power these aircraft was not selected yet but aircraft deliveries to FedEx are planned to be during 2007.

On February 16, 2006, China Eastern Airlines signed a contract with EADS EFW for conversion of three Airbus A300-600 passenger aircraft to freighters. Conversion work was planned to be carried out between December 2006 through to 2007. With this order EADS had converted into freighters more than 125 A300 aircraft.

In March 2006 Airbus announced that the company was ceasing A300 and A310 production by 2007 following growing demand from operators for the newest Airbus models such as A321, A330, A340 and A350. The last A300/A310 airplane on order, an A300-600, was expected to be handed over in July 2007.
