Description:
The Durand de la Penne class destroyers are an improved version of Italian Audace-class equipped with outstanding armament and electronic gear. They can perform anti-submarine, anti-surface, and anti-air warfare missions while providing support for amphibious operations.
In addition to Durand de la Penne outstanding weapon system, they feature redundant sub-systems, reduced radar and infrared signatures for better survivability.
The propulsion system combines Diesel for long endurance and Gas powerplants (CODOG). The weapon system comprises the Milas anti-submarine missile system, MU90 Impact torpedoes, 40 SM-1MR surface-to-air missiles, 4 Teseo missile systems, 1 Albatros (8 Aspide missiles) missile system, one 127mm naval gun, and 3 76mm naval guns. Milas missile system and MU90 torpedoes were supplied to Durand de la Penne class ships in 2002, as well as software and hardware updates to the weapon system for optimized performance.
