Description:
The F125 class frigates are still in early stage of development and will replace the eight F122 Bremen-class frigates in the German Navy one by one beginning around 2010. These ships will be charged with escort duties providing protection to naval formations against underwater threats such as submarines and the emerging underwater threats. Another key element of F125 design is her ability to conduct operations within multinational task groups in a network-centric operations environment and to confront asymmetric threats. F125 class frigates development is being carried out by ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and Friedrich Lurssen Werft.
In March 2006 EADS was selected by the consortium responsible for the F125 frigate development to supply the open architecture command and control and weapons deployment system known as FuWES.
