Description: The F70 ASM class ships have been conceived to perform anti-submarine warfare missions while escorting naval oceanic forces. In addition, they can support amphibious assault operations or perform surveillance and high seas patrol missions.

The F70 frigates weapon options include up to 8 MM40 Exocet surface-to-surface missiles, 8+18 Crotale surface-to-air missiles (replaced by Mistral based missile systems in late ships), L5 torpedoes, one 100mm naval gun, and two Lynx helicopters.

According to French Navy plans, the F70 frigates along with other frigate classes should be decommissioned in the second decade of the 21st century by the FREMM multi-purpose frigates.
