FSC

Also Known As
Future Surface Combatant

Origin
United Kingdom

Description: The Future Surface Combatant (FSC) is a British Ministry of Defense (MoD) initiative aimed to procure a versatile and affordable replacement for existing Royal Navy's Type 22 and Type 23 frigates into the next decade. The FSC ship is still in the conceptual design stage with two hull designs being considered: monohull and trimaran hull. It could incorporate electric propulsion motors to power the entire ship.

According to Royal Navy sources, the monohull FSC design would be a shortened derivative of Type 45 destroyers while trimaran FSC would be an entirely new and revolutionary design taking additional benefits due to a greater stability in rougher sea states.

According to currently deployed Type 22 and Type 23 vessels, the FSC vessels to be procured by the United Kingdom could be as high as 21.
