Description: The Halifax-class frigates have been designed to provide Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) capabilities. These vessels feature and integrated weapon system providing excellent offensive capabilities against submarines and defensive capabilities against surface, underwater and airborne threats. The Halifax-class frigate were deployed successfully for the first time in the 1990s during the conflict of the former Republic of Yugoslavia patrolling the Adriatic Sea.

Each Halifax-class frigate carries 8 Harpoon anti-ship missiles, 16 Sea Sparrow/ESSM missiles, a Bofors 57mm gun, one Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS), and 24 anti-submarine torpedoes. A flight deck and a hangar allows to operate a single ASW helicopter.

Canada ordered 12 Halifax-class frigates delivered between 1992 and 1996.
