Description: The AN/FPS-85 is a surveillance radar specially designed to track objects in space that meet the phased array concept. A phased array consists of transmitters and receivers collection instead of a rotating antenna associated to early radar generations. The FPS-85 space track radar was installed in Eglin Air Force Base.
In August 2004, ITT Industries was awarded a contract for planning and requirements definition of an upgrade applicable to the AN/FPS-85 radar to extend its service life.
