Description: BUR (Bodenberwachungsradar) is a ground-based Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar system developed by EADS to meet the requirements of the German Army for a ground surveillance radar. BUR is capable of detecting moving objects on the ground and in the air close the ground. This innovative radar system is specially suitable against asymmetric threats and is expected to be operational until 2040. Thanks to AESA technology, BUR can execute several ground surveillance tasks at the same time with high reliability. MEADS air defense system, F124 frigate, TerraSAR-X space radar and NATO AGS ground surveillance system share the same transmitter and receiver modules technology used on BUR.

In July 2006, the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) of Germany awarded EADS a contract for the supply of two BUR demonstrators by the end of 2009. Up to 78 BURs would be delivered to the German Armed Forces by 2012 under the terms of this agreement. The German Army will deploy these mast-mounted radar systems aboard Dingo 2 all-protected armored vehicles.
