Description:
The Catherine is a family of stabilized thermal imagers developed by Thales and designed to provide long range surveillance and target acquisition, day and night passive operation, and good detection of camouflaged target. The imager features rugged design for military wheeled and track vehicles and is compatible with fire control systems. This advanced sensor is based on the 8-12 micrometers band and is resistant to battlefield obscurants and solar dazzle while delivering digital video.
The Catherine XP is a compact high performance thermal imager fully compatible with a wide range of vehicle-mounted sighting systems. The imager weighs less than 3 kg, is 258mm in length and needs a power supply of 30 W while delivering digital video output of 625 lines and/or 768x576 pixels imagery. Cooling is provided through an Stirling micro-cooler allowing for operations at temperatures ranging from -40C to +55C. The resulting sensor system can provide detection of dismounted infantry at ranges of 7 km, armored vehicles at 13 km, rotary-wing aircraft at 16 km, and fixed-wing aircraft at 22 km.
