Description:
The Forward Based X-band Transportable (FBX-T) radar is an integral part of the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). MDA awarded Raytheon a developmental contract for the FBX-T radar in April 2003. Raytheon delivered the first FBX-T in November 2004 ahead of schedule and on budget.
The FBX-T is a high-power, transportable X-Band radar designed to track ballistic missiles in the boost and post-boost phases of flight. This radar is intended to support US and allied military forces deployed worldwide providing tracking of ballistic missiles as an integral part of the BMDS system.
On 8 June 2005, MDA awarded Raytheon a contract with a potential value of $261 million for Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) for a five years period. The period of performance was set from 26 May 2005 through 25 May 2010. Under the terms of this contract Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) was charged with the tasks related to operating and maintaining up to four FBX-T. The workload assigned to Raytheon covers all operations including site surveys and site preparation; operational readiness certification; site operation and maintenance; mission preparation and support; radar performance reporting and analysis; depot support; and administrative and physical security.
