Description:
The MACS (Mobile Approach Control System) is being developed by the ITT corporation to meet the US Air Force requirements for an integrated tactical air traffic control system. The MACS consists of a S-band Air Surveillance Radar (ASR), operations subsystem and a PAR-2000 Precision Approach Radar (PAR). It will fulfill mobility, transportability and operation in harsh physical environments criteria. A whole MACS systems would be airlifted by only 3 C-130 aircraft.
The MACS will replace the AN/TPN-19 and the AN/MPN-14K currently fielded by the US Air Force and the Air National Guard respectively. It will be 99% time availability.
MACS will be the natural choice for the air traffic control in support of expeditionary forces and the restoration of damaged airfields by natural causes.
Plans call for acquisition of 18 MACS, 8 of them will be delivered to the ACC and the remaining 10 will be delivered to the Air National Guard.
