Description:
Stalker is a mobile autonomous reconnaissance and target acquisition system for application on ground vehicles developed by Rafael. It consists of TOPLITE electro-optical (EO) payload and a radar system mounted on an observation mast. These two sensors provide long and short range reconnaissance capability during day/night and all-weather conditions. The information gathered by Stalker sensors is processed in the carrier vehicle's cabin or transmitted in real-time to command posts. Stalker and its carrier vehicle are fully transportable by a C-130-sized aircraft.
The Stalker Doppler-pulse radar system has a surveillance range ranging from 24 to 48 kilometers depending on the target's Radar Cross Section (RCS). While EO payload range is shorter, no more than 20 kilometers. EO payload includes CCD-TV, FLIR and laser target designator as optional. Such a combination of sensors and ranges makes Stalker suitable for a broad spectrum of surveillance missions. Rafael seems to use Stalker II designation referring to armored vehicles applications and Stalker III for non-armored vehicles.
The Stalker has been designed to fit into a wide range of ground platforms from pick-up trucks to medium wheeled armored vehicles. Operated by a crew of two, the resulting system can operate as an autonomous unit, networked into a battle management system or a border security system in support of Homeland Security missions. In 2005 Stalker II was successfully integrated onto Slovenia's Valuk 6x6 armored vehicle.
