Description: The Lockheed Martin TPS-79 is a multi-mission, medium-range air surveillance radar system intended to monitor airspace. It can easily be transported by air, sea, truck or rail and can be deployed in less than 60 minutes. In 2002, the Romania Ministry of Defense (MoD) awarded Lockheed Martin Gap Filler program phase I contract for the procurement of two TPS-79(R) prototypes. In March 2008, the Romania MoD awarded phase II contract for the co-production of 17 TPS-79(R) radar systems by Lockheed Martin and UTI Systems due to be assembled and tested in both countries, the United States and Romania.
