Description: Dedale is an electro-magnetic countermeasure system developed to counter magnetic mines which pose a grave threat for armored vehicles and main battle tanks. Its primary mission is to clear gaps and routes for armored vehicles. The countermining system is based on a magnetic signature duplication causing magnetic mines to explode in front of the Dedale-equipped vehicle at a safe distance. Dedale would be compatible with all types of heavy battle tanks thus opening up a potentially significant export market.

The project was launched in September 2005 by the French Defense Procurement Agency (DGA) with the developmental contract awarded to MBDA. MBDA will integrate the Dedale countermining system on the AMX30 B2DT main battle tank in partnership with GIAT Industries. The contract awarded by DGA calls for 30 of such a systems to be produced with the option to increase that figure to 50. Deliveries are due from late 2007 through mid-2008. Entry into service with the French Army is planned by the end of 2008.
